Our club was founded on the August of 9th, 2023, we initially started
with our core team, consisting of 3 members: Nirvaan Phophalia | President, Aarav Jain | Executive Manager, Aarav Chaudhary | Financial Manager.
Soon, with word starting to spread, after a month we reached a learner
count of 20. We made sure to account for our club sessions, where we would educate learners about current affairs, while also giving them a general idea about environmental science.
Our first event was a huge success, everyone participated with great enthusiasm, and it was also quite an insightful experience. Partnering with Forests By Heartfulness made this possible, and we greatly thank them, we hope to do more activities with this NGO in the future. Our key highlights are mentioned on several news articles that covered our tree plantation drive, you can read more about it on our Jan, 2024 journal.
Our second event was a beach cleanup, Ecospire partnered with a
local NGO, Project Mumbai. We managed to gather more than 40
students (Grade 8 - Grade 10) from JBCN International, Parel to support our initiative. It involved removing a lot of plastic, hazardous waste and creating good memories!
Our third event was a simple, yet effective one. In order to raise awareness about the rising issue of toxic e-waste we hosted a guest speaker session in collaboration with waste recycling company, Dalmia Polypro for Grades 8 & 9. They were briefed on waste management. Following this we hosted an e-waste collection drive in the school for all the students who wanted to contribute to the change by donating their e-waste. In the end, we managed to collect a whopping 93kgs of e-waste, which was later sent to Dalmia Polypro for recycling.
Our fourth event's primary idea was to combat the increased coastal pollution from Ganesh Visarjan and also to scale up and unite people. Our thoughts and ideas eventually culminated into a city-wide beach cleanup in collaboration with two NGOs Seafins and EFI. More than 200 volunteers participated from four schools and the NGOs, which took place at three major beaches – Girgaon Chowpatty, Mahim and Prabhadevi. The volunteers collected waste, not only in the form of partially broken idols in the sea but also plastic and debris. This was later covered in the media, read more here.
